Follow this link to the Dublin North West People Before Profit website detailing plans to slash our bus service from March 1st.

This site broke the story of impending cuts before Xmas but even we did not anticipate the extent of the callous disregard for workers and passengers shown by Dublin Bus management and their masters in the government,

Come to this meeting

Come to this meeting

People Before Profit are holding a public meeting at 8pm on Thursday February 5th to link up with other community groups and activists as well as trade unionists.

The bus drivers themselves are gearing up to fight the plans, which will mean more than 300 job losses as well as a slashed bus service. The organisers of the meeting tell me they will have a representative of the Bus Drivers from nearby Harristown garage (which operates many of the local buses) to put us in the picture.

With the biggest slum since the 50s falling in among us, the key will be SOLIDARITY to fight this government’s cuts.

If the crooked bankers can get bailed out with billions, why can they rich be taxed to ensure we have decent jobs, and services like public transport, education and health.

By the way, you have to laugh at the Green party TDs who have been banging on about how they are so concerned with global warming, but as this incident shows are more concerned to keep their ministerial Mercs than keep a public transport system whcih could be expanded and made cheaper to encourage people not use their cars.

Maybe this hypocrisy from the Green party is why two of their councillors have resigned from the party over the last few weeks. Chris O’Leary in Cork and Bronwen Maher in Dublin, quit the party.

Chris O’Leary has been interviewed in the forthcoming Socialist Worker about why he left the Green Party and what he thinks the future strategy for the left and the environmental movement should be.
